Washing Instructions
To increase the lifespan of your garments, make sure to take care of them and wash them properly.
Preparation
- Close All Zippers and Fasteners: Before washing, zip up all zippers and fasten any Velcro closures to prevent damage to the fabric and maintain the jacket’s shape.
- Check for Stains: You can spot-clean any visible stains with a mild detergent and a soft brush.
Washing
- Machine Wash:
- Temperature: Use cold or tepid water (no more than 40°C / 104 °F).
- Cycle: Select a gentle or delicate cycle.
- Detergent: Use a mild, liquid detergent specifically designed for waterproof or technical fabrics. Avoid using powdered detergents, fabric softeners, bleach, or stain removers, as these can damage the waterproof membrane and DWR coating.
- Rinse: Make sure the program includes a thorough rinse, to remove all detergent residues, as these can affect the jacket’s performance.
Drying
We recommend hanging the jacket to air dry on a hanger in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Heat activation of DRW
When it is dry, activate the DWR coating again. If you are planning on re-impregnating the garment, do that before the heat activation.
The DWR is reactivated by heat, so put the garment in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes on mid-heat. You can also use an iron to reactivate the DWR. If so, set it on no steam and the heat setting on medium. We also recommend having a thin towel or other protection between the iron and the garment.
Re-Impregnating DWR Coating
Over time, the DWR coating on your jacket may wear off. There are two options to restore the water repellency back to its original state: spray-on or Wash-in. The both give the same effect. The spray-on is preferable if you want to control exactly how much DWR you apply, while the wash-in is easier and will save you some time.
Instructions for Spray-On Treatment
Spray-on is applied after washing and drying. Lay the jacket flat on a towel, and evenly spray a DWR treatment on the outer surface. When the garment is dry again, heat active the DWR as the instructions above.
Instructions fo Wash-In Treatment:
Let the clothes stay in the machine after their wasing and rinse. Add a DWR wash-in product to your washing machine following the manufacturer’s instructions. When the garment is dry again, heat active the DWR as the instructions above.
Additional Washing Tips
- Avoid Dry Cleaning: Do not dry clean the jacket, as the chemicals used can damage the waterproof membrane and synthetic fill.
- Regular Maintenance: To maintain the performance of your ski jacket, wash it sparingly. Frequent washing can degrade the DWR coating and waterproof membrane.
- Storage: Store the jacket in a cool, dry place. Avoid compressing it for long periods, especially if it is insulated, to maintain the loft of the synthetic fill.
By following these instructions, you can keep your ski jacket clean and ensure it maintains its waterproof and insulating properties for many seasons to come. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
